A few questions about going to school in the US?

Hello

I live in Toronto, Canada. I would like to go to UC Berkeley for my undergrad program. If i move to California, how does my citizenship change? Can I get a duel-citizenship? What about healthcare, im covered by law here in canada, so will i lose that if i move. Also, can i keep my part time job here for when i return home for the holidays? Lastly, will i have to take my drivers liscence again and register my car?

thanks

You will have to acquire a Visa. They are long-term “vacation” passports that are set for a limited amount of time, ie three years. Once three years are up, then you need to renew your Visa or get it extended. This will allow you to have temporary dual-citizenship. Your health care will remain the same because you still technically live in Canada; you’re just studying in the US. However, there are laws with Visas. You may not be able to return to Canada until your Visa expires, depending on the type you acquire. You will need to bring your driver’s license to prove you have one, the registration of your car in Canada, but you will not need to re-register it in California. Below, I have attached the US Student Visas link. Hope this helps!
